elements beneath the sky...

Owning 2 masks - featuring my true self & the other self... I've drifted from the normal path. Juz some thoughts, opinions, complaints, gossips, bullshits... beneath the boundaryless sky that we share.

Name:

I am... by my own standards... a simple, sincere, average-looking scopio who can be both quiet and crazy; one who needs time to warm up to people; a homebody; sometimes impatient and stubborn, and erm, a mech engineer who doesn't look and sound like one.

Aiyoyo...

Hee... just gotten my hair rebonded on Sat (I know it's bad for my hair but sometimes I really can't stand those baby hairs sticking out here and there...)

So, hair nice already but Urrggghhhh... I am down with sometimes-running, sometimes-blocked nose...

And why am I still idling in my lab - waiting for Xian lor... one moment he sms to tell me that he'll reach around 10pm, another moment he calls to tell me about 10.30pm... and now it's 10.45pm already and my mobile phone still haven't 'sing' my favourite Doraemon tune... wondering how long he'll take???

He's OTing almost everyday because his project deadline is a few days before Chinese New Year and if he doesn't complete his parts on time, he will have to enjoy CNY in his office.

Oh, logging off... cos Xian is here liao...

From strangers to friends

I have, for the third time, classified a complete stranger (never talked or even met before) as my friend in writing for the sake of doing someone I know (not necessarily extremely well) a favour. I guess I've got little choice as the only person in the centre (minus lab tech) who has the legal rights to do so.

Friends I've made (chat once through their "appreciative-of-my-effort" dinner):
Wang Dan - KP's gf
QC's mum
coming up next... hope I've got a chance to meet this stranger-friend of mine:
Lijuan - WY's gf
;p

LK Youth Centre Flag Day 2005

Xi, Picachew, Xian and me felt so old last Saturday. To be frank, a bit pai seh (shy)initially... how not to when we (the old ones, comparatively) were collecting tins from a group of JC students (the young ones) who were manning the Orchard Distribution Centre? I mean, shouldn't we switch roles? keke ;p

Frankly, I think we were great (commendable efforts... kekek):
1) It was drizzling intermittently between 1pm to 4pm and we still continued.
2) Xi, Picachew and me were down with cough (and we all just recovered from fever, flu, sore throat).
3) We put in the effort unlike two other girls (also non-uniformed) who seemed to be walking around as though they were part of the shopping crowd. Btw, we went to Si Ma Lu (Bugis) to sell flags.

Some observations:
1) I think Xian was the "funniest" cos he just stood still and flashed his smiles... and automatically his tins would be filled with donations. Picachew named the place that he stood on as the "feng shui" position. keke...
2) As usual, some people would "siam" the moment they see people with tins... some others would say they donate already (one even say he donated a lot already - not that I doubt, but...)... some would kindly smile and walk away... some would show you his charcoal-liked face or throw you a disgusted look... some would just ignore you even if you talk to them nicely... some would automatically show the stickers on whatever they stick on when they walk past (as though the sticker was some kind of security or entry pass)... some would ask what are the donations for and whether they are for the tsunamis victims... (I am puzzled by one comment made by a Chinese guy: "Eh, this one for Bible... Sorry!" and just walked away quickly (haven't got a chance to tell him that I'm a Buddhist and that the donations will go towards helping the needy of all races and religion... Haiz, so narrow-minded)... and to those who have donated (whether those whom I've approached or those who have come up to me by themselves): "THANK YOU VERY MUCH!".
3) More middle-aged and above donated than those youngsters... and frankly, the rude ones were more of those teenagers and youngsters. Oops!

First force-fed well-rested weekend of 2005

Saturday (1st Jan 2005)

Felt miserable really… with running + blocked nose, itchy + sore throat, cough… How to see doctor today? Had to wait till Sunday morning... Anyway, for once, I really rested well on weekend (I usually don’t as I would be out somewhere doing something). How could I not rest well when there are only three basic activities which I could possibly do: Sleep, Eat and Watch television (lying down some more).

I watched the MTV concert at 1.30pm after taking porridge for brunch. After that, upon request from my mum, I let Sony (my TV) to take a little rest. So, I went into my room and switched on Sharp to watch “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring” VCD. This movie was slightly slow but not boring, a relatively refreshing one with remarkable visual details and an exquisitely beautiful storyline that impressed me. I never really did bother to check the age restriction since I could watch any shows I wanted and no RA shows would be sold in decent shops. I only found out the classification only when I was watching it (with Ah Boy). I mean it was already showing liao… what do you think I should do. Making a fuss will not help – might as well let it occur naturally.

I think he was pretty matured in handling that scene (haha… when I told dad and mum that there was this scene during dinner… ah boy injected with something of this sort: “aiyah, the teacher already taught us this in school” – impressive huh…) Btw, there are only two scenes which are slightly more inappropriate for kids but other than that; the show is great for both the young and old. Btw, the whole show (M18) is in Korean but there it’s friendly with English and Chinese subtitles.

Anyway, we watched it again in the evening (as we couldn’t find anything nice to watch on TV) – this time with mum and dad. Mum kept commenting about how nice the landscapes were… and kept asking me how it would turn out and kept guessing the outcomes… (If I am watching a new movie, I had to watch it myself – as I don’t really like someone talking throughout the show… keke)

Mum liked the tiny Buddhist monastery that floated on a raft amidst a breath-taking landscape (and kept telling me that this is a real monastery –how would she know huh?) and the part where the adult Monk draged a millstone to the summit of a mountain overlooking the pond (she kept telling dad that this was why they saw so many “guanyin” on hilltops during their China travel trips)…

After that, mum said she wanted to watch news. So ah boy and I went into my room to watch “The Terminal” (Tom Hanks’s acting is impressive and the whole show is pretty entertaining).

Sunday (2nd Jan 2005)

After I woke up, the first thing I did was to call the clinic to make an appointment. The funny thing is (not sure if you notice it yourself), I actually felt slightly better while waiting for my turn in the clinic. Perhaps something was acting subconsciously…

I felt drowsy for practically the whole day, ate little, slept a lot and watched “Shark Tale” and “Colour of Sound (地下铁)” in between naps.

Goodbye 2004, Hello 2005

Oh gosh, I am falling sick soon. The signs are here: dry itchy throat, occasional cough & sneezes, and my voice become flat and coarse (haha, only Steven nicely classified it as a sexy voice – something like that of Zoe Tay's).

Hee... while I am cursing at the poorly designed Air-Handling-Unit (AHU) that is serving overly-cold air to my lab (as though I am moving around outdoor in Genting, minus the fog), I hope no one at Block 2 & 4 of Biopolis is cursing at my design.

Later I am bringing some donated relief items down to Singapore Poly. Then, I am going to Qi Chao's place for dinner – hmm, looking forward to the 饺子(jiao zi) *yum yum*

To mark the end of this blessed year, I will make a donation to the earthquake and tsunamis victims.

All the best for the New Year!
