From strangers to friends

I have, for the third time, classified a complete stranger (never talked or even met before) as my friend in writing for the sake of doing someone I know (not necessarily extremely well) a favour. I guess I've got little choice as the only person in the centre (minus lab tech) who has the legal rights to do so.
