We had a meeting to discuss the security, access, outlook, etc… first time! The discussion is, in my opinion, almost a one-way dialogue session (expected). Actually I wanted to feedback about some things, really, but I did exactly what my intuition tells me and was glad I did not waste my saliva.
So what if everyone feels that the place is too damned cold… Come on lah, don’t tell me there is nothing you can do. With money (if there’s money to install six security cameras ‘all over’ a small area, what’s the problem?) and authority, I seriously don’t see wearing jackets as the only solution (It shouldn’t be so cold in the first place). My solution is to not work in the lab if I can (and I already have the approval to do so) – as for the rest, good luck and you just have to wear more or go for frequent toilet breaks to thaw out.
Another thing is… have your boss discourage you from drinking coffee or tea or soft drinks at your desk? I can understand if they disallow food (since there’s smell), but drinks? “If you must, do it in the pantry area.” This is one ridiculous request that I find hard to accept. Anyway, I just smell food and I think that Cheena guy ‘hacked care’ and disregarded the no food ‘regulation’.
One more thing… instead of promoting the freedom and flexibility to use the lab as and when needed, the need to conform to certain absurd aspects has made it even more rigid. I just cannot understand the rational behind the need to have at least two persons working in the lab after office hours. For security and safety reasons, they say. Shouldn’t they extend this to all the staff who have their own offices since something might happen to them and nobody will know too? Just imagine that you have to work late one fine day… to do so, you jolly well have to persuade another authorized person to stay back to ‘share’ your misery. What the fish! You think others would be so free to stay with you if they have nothing urgent to finish? If I have to break this some day, I will.
The information-dissemination-'discussion' left me speechless... what can I say?
