elements beneath the sky...

Owning 2 masks - featuring my true self & the other self... I've drifted from the normal path. Juz some thoughts, opinions, complaints, gossips, bullshits... beneath the boundaryless sky that we share.

Name:

I am... by my own standards... a simple, sincere, average-looking scopio who can be both quiet and crazy; one who needs time to warm up to people; a homebody; sometimes impatient and stubborn, and erm, a mech engineer who doesn't look and sound like one.

New Year Resolutions 2007

It's that time of year again to make new year resolutions.
To take myself to greater heights in 2007 via...

1. Lose weight...
(frankly, how to huh?)
2. Exercise regularly...
(Maybe being fit will do, lose weight will be a bonus... hoho)
3. Finish up whatever I'm doing now
(by hook or by crook)
4. Finalize my career path & start the work-in-Singapore-for-2-years countdown...
tick tock tick tock...
5. Travel to U.S. for 1-2 months for both work and play
(in ratio of at most 1:4)
6. Take my RC Falcon 3D helicopter to the skies.
7. Get pilot Ter, HX, or Eug to fly me around Singapore or Malaysia in an aircraft.
8. Start to do some volunteer work
(if I don't get bogged down with work... again).
9. Make plans to settle down...
10. Continue keyboard lessons.

11. Learn to cook/bake.

I hope they don't get derailed any time soon ;p

Mistaken identity...

Yesterday I received a holiday greeting sms at 10.37pm from KW. He added a line to ask me to give him a call when I can? I'm puzzled. Really! I still ask Pong how come an only-met-once-through-a-climbing-activity dentist friend would ask me to give him a call? Did he, out of courtesy, type that? Or did he really want me to return a call? Anyway, I proceeded to charge my 'battery-flatted' phone and this incident conveniently slipped off my mind until just now. KW called me. Only then I realized this KW is not the new friend but another potential immediate boss. Oh mine... so forgetful. In my phone, I keyed in the name in full but in person, we addressed him by his initials KW - so I thought KW is that friend of mine. I just realized I don't have the contact of that new friend in my hp lor. It was really an unexpected call to tell me his intent to get me into his team. We briefly discussed about it and then chatted for a short while before hanging up. ;p hohoho...

Genetic Algorithms...

Okie... for the benefits of those who would like to find out more about Genetic Algorithms (GA), here's some useful links... but to those who wanted to find out how I use GA for real-time/near-real-time applications, haha... sorrie, it's still confidential (so I will keep my mouth shut for the time being). Furthermore, I also don't know if it will work or not, say so much also no use right? ;p

GAlib v2.4.6 (Would like to specifically recommend this since I'm using it...)
GAlib contains a set of C++ genetic algorithm objects. The library includes tools for using genetic algorithms to do optimization in any C++ program using any representation and genetic operators. The documentation includes an extensive overview of how to implement a genetic algorithm as well as examples illustrating customizations to the GAlib classes.

Mathtools.net > Genetic Algorithms >
This is a technical computing portal for all scientific and engineering needs... can find lots of GA codes in C, C++, Matlab, Java, Fortran, Excel, and Visual Basic.

Multi-objective NSGA-II code in C (Developed at KanGAL)
Others software available for download in the link above include:
Simple GA code in C
Single-objective GA code in C (Real + Binary + Constraint Handling)
Epsilon-MOEA in C and C++
Basic Differential Evolution (DE) in C

GA

Embarking on a cutting-edge and fascinating field of Genetic Algorithms... The idea just popped up in my head one night. I jotted it down and discussed it with sup the next day. He supported the move and thought it was quite a great idea - logically sound and potentially applicable. Previously, I've thought about this before but somehow the pieces couldn't fit in nicely (without some knowledge which I just acquire recently). I'm not very convinced that it'll become something of a breakthrough, but I just pray for comparative results with existing studies... that should suffice.

Miracle Forever...

For the sixth time within a month, I made a trip down to Changi Airport after celebrating ah gong's birthday. This time not to pick up or send anyone, but to go there to exchange a gift perfume. I opted for 75ml Miracle Forever (new arrival) by Lancôme within minutes.

The fragrance, as I understood, is a "foody oriental" built around three predominant notes: almond flower nectar, blackcurrant, and star anis. Attractive scent that hooked me very shortly after I sprayed some on my inner wrist. Even Xian said it's nice.

When enough is enough...

I just couldn’t understand why he should pay for things which he’s not using, uses only partially, or jointly. I told him: “Don’t you think helping so much would backfire? You just don’t know the harm you are causing. Don’t underestimate the power of reliance.”

There’s really no point talking too much about when enough is enough…

I am an...

Strained with stains

Sometimes I wished I didn't have to walk to the pantry (if it were not for the paper tissues I need to wipe my table). Guess what I saw... a digusting cup!

This cup seems liked it hasn't been washed for ages. Too busy with research until no time to wash? Or just too plain lazy to wash? Either way, it left me speechless. Btw, this cup is still in use... saw its owner (a Chinese guy) drinking from it. Faint!

I never used the pantry for ages, I just bring my fresh supply of water (1L) from home everyday. You see... I bought and contributed an electric kettle (shared with everyone)... but after few months, I stopped using it. You know why? Everyone just fill it with water, boil it, pour & drink BUT I WONDER HOW MANY TAKE THE INITIATIVE TO WASH IT BEFORE FILLING IT WITH WATER! Anyway, it turns yucky with all the stains after some time. I refused to buy another one to share after that! I bought myself a vaccum flask instead so that if I ever need hot water, I took it from the hot water dispenser in the canteen.

He's back...

gif animation

Went with Jr. Bro to fetch Xian at airport this morning... Was supposed to give him a surprise, so didn't tell him I was going and only arranged with Jr. the night before.

Puzzle
Ten yrs down the road, if Xian look back at the photos, he would think that he was at Florence, Rome, Milan in the year 2005. Why?
(Eh, it's a bit obvious... u shld know the answer right?!)

Amazingly different in size

Juz now Z. 小姐 insisted that the two batteries (newly bought batt - blue enclosed, old batt - purple enclosed) are slightly different in sizes, so much so that she couldn't get the laser_pt.er to work using the new batt. I took a look at both batt briefly and told her both are AAA batt, they are of the same type and size, and should fit the laser_pt.er just the same. She don't believe. If theoretical can't work... use the practical approach. So I took it over and fixed the batts in and showed her. There's very slight connection problem but should not be an issue to get it working. Hmm...

Strange little perks

Today is one of the days when I feel extremely tired even with a luxurious 8.5hrs of sleep. Felt so lethargic somehow. After lunch, it was even worse. Felt sleepy until I almost dozed off while correcting a paper. So went to grab a cup of yummy milk tea from canteen.

When I came back, I actually saw Alan (my Uni course mate) in the lab. Ghee, so happy to see someone I know… chatted with him for a short while and found that they are actually here to review some course materials. I shall not reveal too much since one of the people involved is one of my examiners. Personally, I also think the contents are less than satisfactory and not really that applicable contextually. I could only smile at the comment: “You and I can also teach that!”... well, that should sum up why they are here ;p

The tea and the chat with someone I know really set me awake... suddenly, all the lethargy was dispelled.

Somethings...

Yesterday I bumped into my JC classmate MH. He's doing the wireless network upgrading project here. I suggested we catch up on the trip back home. Heh heh, I didn't know he drove. So in the end, he gave me a ride home. Found out that he has a gf liao and they have just sent in an application for a BTO flat in Sengkang. That's nice.
-----------------
On some days, I think my blood pressure probably rose higher than that of my mum. Sometimes it's really sick to hear and discover some unpleasant and unexpected happenings.
-----------------
That Z. 小姐 is an extreme attention-seeker and has overdone it to such a degree that sparked repugnance...
-----------------

Hmm, would like to catch these movies... but it's like a bit too many. Heh heh. But a must watch for me is probably "The Curse of the Golden Flower" - heh heh, I have to be very frank, I don't fancy 古装戏. I'm watching it all because of the casts (just very curious how Jay fared in this type of movie after Initial D, and wanted to watch his 对手戏 with great mega-star actors like Chow Yun Fat and Gong Li - interesting). Xian love wars movies (especially fighting scenes) and 古装戏, so he should like this movie. I know Xian wanted to watch "Flags of our Father".
-----------------
I was chatting with Liz today over msn and we gave ourselves a new name: Jack - as in the Jack of all trade but master of none. Haha.

I saw it again...

Needed some bullets... so took out my fav London Diary box.
(Bought from London many years back, still in gd shape... not bad right!)
Was a box of cookies... now a box of stationery ;p

It's amazing why I didn't throw away this workpiece which I made from Yr 1 Engineering Workshop. Till now, it's still sitting inside the box.
Keep for what? I also don't know.

Cos I'm residing in Pong's room temporarily (all thanks to the stupid aircon)... happened to flip thru one extremely old chinese composition book I left for him... heh heh, saw it again but can't rem what actually happened.
我在中二时到底帮老师做了些什么,为什么会是《劲2》的其中一位编辑?怎么想还是想不到。真是搞不懂。(《劲2》是我中学学生作品选集)

On the morning of Xi's wedding day...

On the morning of Xi's wedding... (last last Sunday)
(in case you are wondering, it's not my wedding... it's my sis's wedding).

The sky was pitch dark when the 4 jie-meis, MUA, and photographer arrived.

It couldn't really be earlier... it's already too early. Imagine some having to wake as early as 4am. Aiyo. In order to adhere to the auspicious hours given by the fengshui master, the jie-mei really had to work within the tight time span of about 35-40mins. Hmm, 4 jie-meis vs 4 bros... interesting :)

10 questions were prepared beforehand. The trick is to include questions which the groom would not know. haha... and for each wrong answer...

To make three masterpieces for the bride
(Frankly, there wasn't enuf time... else they probably couldn't get away with the don't-know-look-like-what pieces... haha)

Using their butts to write "I ♥ YOU"
Wait till the video is ready... this part is really funnie!

... with additional exaggerated performance by the groom... haha!

Which jie mei would be so nice to offer kaya or peanut butter biscuits right?
It's of course the famous yucky wasabi + peanut butter biscuits.
Hmm, maybe I should check back on the video to see if there's any footage of one bro scrapping off the wasabi without anybody's knowledge... ;p
Then there's a capful of honey (btw, we don't believe in bitter or sour stuff on a happy occasion).

Of course, not forgetting the red packet...
They also made the groom sing... and, guess what... it's "老鼠爱大米"
(no pics...)

Really, the groom and 4 brothers were so sporting and prompt in executing the tasks.
First door cleared... on to the next...

Is the card nice?
Drew & made an one-and-only card specially for Picarchew & Xi.
Heh heh, the mickey-minnie theme is in-line with that of the poster and montage as well.
The jie-mei made him write his name, IC, five vows and got my dad to sign as a witness... haha ;p
